She recently graduated from SOAS University of London with her MA in Translation (Japanese) with Merit (2021.) She graduated Summa Cum Laude from The Ohio State University (2020) with her BFA in Dance, for which she achieved Research Distinction, as well as her BA in Japanese with Honors. At OSU, she trained with acclaimed instructors such as Daniel Roberts, Karen Eliot, Eddie Taketa, Ann Sofie Clemmensen, and Crystal Perkins. Her senior research project in dance received the ASC Arts Undergraduate Research Grant from OSU. She co-curated the 2020 annual OSU Dance film festival, Dance@30FPS, and was chosen to write about the arts as part of a collaboration between Karen Eliot and the Wexner Center for the Arts. One of Demetra’s dance films was a finalist for Best Student Film at the Screen.Dance film festival in Scotland in 2019.

Demetra grew up at dancing at The Pointe School of Dance in Cedar Rapids, IA. She has trained extensively with Margaret Eginton (Merce Cunningham Dance Company.) Demetra attended Burklyn Ballet Theatre for several years, both as a student and as a junior counselor, where she was taught by world-renowned teachers such as John Gardner, Amanda McKerrow, and Helen Starr. She also attended the Nashville Ballet Summer Intensive.

Demetra speaks Japanese fluently and has studied abroad in Kobe, Japan. She also loves creative writing and has received the Reba Elaine Pearl Burkhardt Roorbach Award (2018) and the 1st Place: Gertrude Lucille Robinson Award (2018) from the OSU Department of English for her work. She is striving toward publishing her short stories and novels. She also plays piano and cello. She is an Eastern Orthodox Christian, loves attending church services, and sings in the church choir.
